Annual Burns Supper 2015

The 2015 Waverley Communicators annual Burns Supper was held at the Thistle St James Hotel on Saturday 24 January. President Neil MacLure, ACB CL, welcomed everyone to the evening and provided an overview of proceedings.

Before eating commenced, Frazer Candlish CC gave the Selkirk Grace.   The haggis was piped in by President Neil Maclure.  Breaking with tradition, Moira Beaton DTM gave the address to the haggis, which is usually delivered by a male speaker. This was the first time a female has delivered the address at a Waverley Communicators Burns Supper. It may also be a first time in history.

Eileen Scott, CC ALB, began the after dinner entertainment with The Immortal Memory.  This was followed by John Wood’s Toast to the Lassies. The Reply to the Toast to the Lassies was given by Johanne Burns.  Ivor Fennel then sang Ae Fond Kiss and Then We Sever and Green Grow the Rushes O’ whilst also playing the guitar, and Mark McCulloch read the Burns poem, To a Mouse.  Dmitrijs Limonovs read the Burns poem, I Love My Jean, and there was more singing from Aideen O’Malley who sang Ye Jacobites By Name.  The evening came to an end with all guests joining together to sing Auld Lang Syne.

If you couldn’t make it along this year, do start thinking about attending in 2016 and singing a song or reading a poem!
